Brussels, Belgium, 18 March – The European Union will keep the Angolan Airline, Taag on its “blacklist” until at least June, despite European technicians having “confirmed progress” in the rectification of safety problems, a community source in Brussels said Monday.

The unidentified source quoted by Portuguese news agency, Lusa, added that the message would be sent to the Angolan authorities once the meeting of the European on Air Safety Committee had taken place on 2-4 April, that would analyse the results of European experts from the latest mission to Luanda in mid February.

The source noted that progress shown to date was not yet sufficient to allow Taag aeroplanes to fly to Europe.

The same source said they considered the atmosphere of cooperation between the Europeans and the Angolans, the new safety rules being put into practice in Luanda and the country's new civil aviation law approved in November to be “positive”.

Europe updates its blacklist of airline companies banned from operating within the EU’s air space every quarter, so the next meeting is due to take place at the end of June or the beginning of July.

On 4 July 2007, Brussels announced the inclusion of Taag on its list, due to a lack of safety, after the Air Safety Committee had approved a unanimous decision on this, the previous week

The European Commission' “blacklist" includes some hundred airlines banned from flying in European air space for failing to comply with safety regulations and constituting a danger to passengers. (macauhub)



DT must have some extremely crappy maintenance procedures to have 772's and 73G's and still be banned....it's a shame cause they have one of the best liveries out there
